How The Turtle Got Its Hard Shell

We have spent many hours composing our own myth about how turtles got their hard shells.

We have some amazing writers in our classes and every single person has made some sort of contribution.

Grace led us with how to organise our ideas into strong sentences. Finn was extremely clever at showing rather than telling, eg. "Tama looked at the ground hesitantly and nodded." "Tama trudged along behind the fierce warriors, with his spear held pitifully by his side." Mya became an amazing narrator with such a strong voice that projects so well. Bruno was the voice of the father, Finlay was the voice of the volcano god, and Leo was the voice of Tama.

So many of our students were fantastic at changing our vocabulary to ensure it is really strong. 'Came' became 'emerged', 'under' became 'beneath', 'held' became 'clutched', 'looked' became 'glanced'. We were all great at contributing and are so excited about writing our own myth over the next few weeks.
